Sox Option Chavis To Minors
Michael Chavis has more home runs (4) and more RBI (10) than any player in Red Sox training camp. And so what's he get for his efforts - a ticket to Triple A Pawktucket.
It's not a surprise. There is no place at the big league level for him to play right now. The Sox want him to continue to play some first base, some third base and even some at second base.
Other players optioned Triple A include pitchers Josh Taylor, Travis Lakins and Chandler Shepherd.
P Denyi Reyes was optioned to Double A Portland.
6 players were reassigned to Minor League camp, including catcher Austin Rei, outfielder Rusney Castillo, infielder Tony Renda, first baseman Josh Ockimey, and right-handed pitchers Mike Shawaryn and Carson Smith.
The Red Sox now have 47 players in big league camp, including 33 players from the 40-man roster and 14 non-roster invitees.
