Simply put, the Red Sox ran out of pitching Saturday night and the LA Angels may them pay. It cost the Sox a chance to gain ground in the race for a wildcard playoff spot.

Leading 4-3 in the 8th inning, Ryan Brasier entered the game as the fifth Sox pitcher of the night and he promptly gave up six runs on five hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Josh Smith added gasoline to the fire giving up a three-run homer to Albert Pujols.

With a lack of starters, Sox manager Alex Cora went with an opener pitcher (Josh Taylor) and then five other bullpen pitchers.

It was not pretty.

Nor was the Sox offense. 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and the Sox left 10 runners on base.

Mookie Betts had three hits. JD Martinez had two hits and two RBI.

The 73-63 Sox finish the west coast road trip today with a 4pm game. It is live on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket. David Price comes off the Injured List to make the start.
