The Red Sox got their series with the Oakland A's off on the right foot, scoring a 9-4 Monday night win at Fenway Park.

A big six run 3rd inning for the Sox proved to be the difference in this one. All six runs were unearned as the A's made to crucial errors.

Michael Chavis had three RBI on two hits. Xander Bogaerts and J. D. Martinez both had two RBI. Mookie Betts had three hits and a RBI.

On the hill, E-Rod couldn't get through the 5th inning after giving up all four Oakland runs in a long 3rd inning.

Six pitchers came out of the bullpen to keep the A's scoreless. Ryan Brasier got credit for the win. Matt Barnes got the save.
