The Boston Red Sox and their top overall selection in the 2016 draft have come to terms on a contract before the July 15th deadline.

The contract between the Sox and  lefty Jason Groome will be for a reported $3.65 million according to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network.  Groome was selected at the 12th overall selection the 2016 Draft this past June.  The lefty was slotted to be selected near the top of the draft before concerns about being able to sign him to a deal became an issue.  Groome also reportedly grew up as a Red Sox fan.

Boston also inked fifth round pick Mike Shawaryn for a deal for $637,500 according to Jim Callis of MLB.com.  The money slotted for the pick was estimated at $375,000.  Shawaryn is a right handed pitcher who played his college ball at the University of Maryland.
