Eagles Begin Season At Alfred, MMA Hosts Opener

The Husson Eagles are in update New York today to begin their season against the Alfred University Saxons, a team that received some votes in the national D-3 preseason polls.

In other words, coach Gabby Price and his team have no cupcake to open the season.

The Saxons are in the Empire 8 Conference. They were 8-3 a year ago and played in the ECAC Bowl.

The Eagles were 7-3 a year ago and also played in an ECAC Bowl game.

The two teams met on opening day last season in Bangor. Alfred U won that game 39-25.

Gametime today is at noon.

Coach Chris McKenney leads his Maine Maritime Academy Mariners for his 16th season in Castine. The season opener is against SUNY-Maritime.

The is a non-conference game for MMA but when the Mariners get into NEFC play, it will be for the final time. The NEFC is disbanding after 65 years.

MMA went 3-6 a year ago.
