The MPA mandated two week 'hands-off' period has expired and all over the state high school fall sports teams begin tryouts and practices for the season ahead.

All seven high school fall sports - football, soccer, field hockey, golf, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading.

Football: The first two days of practice are limited to players equipment of helmets and cleats. By days five and six, players can practice in full equipment. The first scrimmage game with another team takes place August 22nd. Teams will play exhibition games on the 26th and 27th.

Soccer: Some Aroostook County teams have started practice and played games because of the potato harvest break. Most teams can play their first scrimmage against another team on August 19th. New rule: The yellow and red card rule changes from time a player sits out to a cumlative system. It starts with three total cards equaling a one game suspension and then more suspension for more yellow and red cards.

Field Hockey: The first scrimmages with other teams begin on August 19th.

Golf: Teams can play their first match on August 26th.

Volleyball: Teams can play their first exhibition game on August 19th.

Cross Country: Practices begin today and the first regular season meets are scheduled for September 2nd.
