Sam Grindle Set To Defend Bunyan Title
It is going to be a big golf weekend in Maine. For the first time, two major amateur tournaments at the same time - The Bunyan and the new Downeast Metro.
In total, close to 300 golfers will compete for in one event or the other.
The Downeast Metro Amateur Saturday/Sunday tourney features Bangor Municipal Golf Course and Kebo Valley in Bar Harbor.
Thomaston's Ricky Jones headlines this field. He is a three-time Maine State Amateur champion and a five-time winner Bunyan winner. Other golfers in the Downeast Metro field include Matt Greenleaf, Lance Bernier, Greg Martin, Jack Wyman.
The Bunyan Amateur Saturday/Sunday tourney will be played at Penobscot Valley in Orono and the Falmouth CC.
Deer Isle-Stonington's Sam Grindle will defend his Bunyan title (won last year at PVCC / Kebo Valley). Bangor high school golfer Drew Powell will also play in the Bunyan. He finished in third place at the 2014 Maine State Amateur.
