The University of Maine basketball teams both took home wins last night from the Cross Insurance Center, as the men’s team beat Holy Cross 55-53 and the women’s side bested Northeastern 68 to 49.

Men’s Basketball - Maine 55-53 Holy Cross

The Black Bears had hot shooting in the first half by point guard Ryan Bernstein who had all 12 of his points in the first 20 minutes of play and almost equaled his three pointer total for the season, going 4-8 from beyond the arc.  Head Coach Bob Walsh switched up the starting line-up and had Austin Howard and Danny Evans make the start for the game and allowed the Black Bears to take the 10 points lead into the halftime break.  The Crusaders would comeback and get within two points at the end of the game before UMaine would seal the win.  Malachi Alexander led all scorers with 16 points, while Bernstein and Ilker Er had 12 for UMaine.  The Black Bears move to 3-6 on the year and will face Dartmouth on the road Saturday.
