Moving into first place never felt so rotten. The Boston Bruins lost 3-2 in overtime to the lowly Carolina Panthers but the tie in regulation nets them one point in the standings, enough to slide into temporary first place in their division.

There was no celebration in the B's locker room after Phil DiGiuseppe scored the game winner for the Hurricanes just 1:30 into overtime.

In a classic 'trap game' situation, the Bruins had no energy after playing that Chicago-Washington-Florida-Tampa Bay stretch when they took seven out of a possible eight points.

They never had the lead against the Hurricanes. The B's did out shoot the Canes 32-28.

The Bruins are 38-23-8 (84 points). That puts the B's in first place but both Tampa Bay and Florida trail by one point and both have played two fewer games.
