Mitch Moreland blasted a three-run home run while seven pitchers held down the fort as the Red Sox beat up the first place Yankees 6-1 Friday night at Fenway.

Moreland finished the night with three hits but the biggie came in the 4th inning of Yankee ace Domingo German.

Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers roped doubles, giving each 49 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Boston pitching staff had one of those so-called 'Tampa Bay bullpen night' nights.

Newly acquired Jhoulys Chacin pitched the first two innings and struck out four. Then in came Josh Tayler, Marcus Walden, Andrew Cashner, Ryan Weber, Darwinon Hernandez and Bobby Poyner.

In total, the group gave up one run and just three hits.

The Sox improve to 76-65 but trail the Yanks by 15.5 games. And, most importantly at this stage still trail in the wildcard race by 6.5 games.
