All of a sudden the Red Sox have a little gap between themselves and the Yankees. An 8-4 Sox win over the Rangers combined with another Yankee loss to Baltimore means the Sox are 3.5 games up in the AL East.

The Sox had a big five run 3rd inning to take control of the game at Fenway last night. They tacked on three more runs to get an 8th straight win.

Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Blake Swihart and Jackie Bradley Jr. all had two hits. Benintendi, Bradley, Mitch Moreland and Xander Bogaerts all had two RBI.

And on the hill, manager Alex Cora used six pitchers to get through what was termed 'a bullpen game'. Matt Barnes got credit for the win.

The Sox improve to 64-29, that's 35 games over .500 with five games left before the all star break.
