
USM To Name Hoops Floor ‘Fifield Court’
For 27 years coach Gary Fifield was the face of University of Southern Maine women's basketball. On December 1st, school officials will honor the retired coach with the naming of the floor, the 'Fifield Court'.
The USM Huskies are scheduled to play Bowdoin College that night.
Before that game a special ceremony dedicating 'Fifield Court' at Hill Gymnasium will honor the former coach.
Fifield's numbers are staggering. From 1987 to 2015 his USM teams won 660 games, 26 NCAA tournament appearances, 5 Final Four appearances, 21 Little East Conference titles and won 87% of his conference games.
In 2005, Fifield was named WBCA NCAA Coach of the Year. 14 times he was named Little East Conference Coach of the Year.
Assistant coach Samantha Allen takes over the USM women's hoops program.
