The Yankees have made their choice and it's Luis Severino. The 24-year-old flamethrowing righthander gets the start in Tuesday night's Wildcard playoff game vs the Oakland A's.

Are the Yanks holding back J.A. Happ for the Red Sox in game one of the ALDS? If they get there?

Severino had a great first half of the season but was only 5-6 with a 5.57 ERA in the second half.

He started twice against the A's and gave up six earned runs in 8.1 innings.

Severino started last year's Wildcard game and did not make it out of the first inning vs Minnesota. The Yanks did come back to win the game 8-4.

Oakland has decided to go with relief pitcher Liam Hendriks as their starter. He is expected to go a inning or two and then a long line of pitchers for the A's.

The winner of the Wildcard Playoff game gets Chris Sale and the Red Sox Friday in game one of the ALDS.
