The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has named Joe Harasymiak the National FCS Coach of the Year. He's the first UMaine football coach to win the award.

Harasymiak led the Black Bears to the NCAA semi-finals and a 10-4 record in his third season as head coach.

In December, Harasymiak left Maine to join the coaching staff at the University of Minnesota.

The announcement of the award came at the AFCA convention in San Antonio, Texas last night.

The award is the only one voted on by only coaches around the country.
