Despite a comeback in the seventh inning, the University of Maine baseball team suffered its 5th America East loss of the season after falling to UMass Lowell 4-3 in 10 innings.Sam Balzano delivered a two run double in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game and force extra innings where the Bears would fall to 1-5 in conference play and 10-18 overall.

UMaine starter Justin Courtney allowed three runs in the bottom of the first inning before settling in for a five inning 4-hit performance. Logan Fullmer allowed the winning hit and took the loss.

The two teams play a double header today starting at 12 noon.

For the first time this season Husson University baseball lost in conference play dropping a double-header to Castleton State.

The Eagles lost the games by scores of 6-1 and 4-3. In game one Dan Whitney suffered his first loss of the season after allowing 6 runs on 10 hits. The Spartans scored the first three runs of the game and never looked back.

Castleton grabbed an early lead in game two as well before the Eagles mounted a rally in the bottom of the 7th inning but came up one run short.

The two teams play another double-header today at the Winkin complex starting at 12 noon.

Husson softball split their double header with Thomas College on Saturday. Kayla Merrill pitched a complete game 5-hitter in the first game leading the Eagles to a 4-1 win.

The Terriers won the second game 5-3 thanks to Korrie Laren who homered and drove in two runs.

UMaine softball swept their two games at UMass Lowell winning the first game 7-0 and the second 5-4. Jessica Burke knocked in 2 runs in the opener while Emj Fogel drove in two in the second game.
