Patriots, OL Shaq Mason Agree to Five-Year Extension
The New England Patriots and OL Shaq Mason have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth up to $50 million, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Monday.
Mason, a 2015 fourth-round draft choice out of Georgia Tech, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2018 season.
Mason, who will turn 25 on Tuesday, has played in 46 regular-season games for the Patriots, making 41 starts.
"Shaq's done a good job for us from the time he got here," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Monday. "He came from an offense that's quite different from ours and adapted quickly. He did a really good job of learning new techniques. He's an athletic player, good strength, good balance, is an excellent run blocker."
