The Boston Red Sox went hunting for middle infielders with their first two draft picks Monday night. The Sox had to wait until pick #43 and #69 to get their guys.

The first pick was shortsstop Cameron Cannon from the University of Arizona. He had a big junior year in college, hitting .397 with 8 home runs and 56 RBI. Scouts think he will end up being a second baseman in the majors after playing third base in the Cape Cod League last summer and playing short and second base at Arizona this season.

With their second pick, the Sox selected another shortstop, Matthew Lugo, a high school senior from Puerto Rico who played at the Carlos Beltran Academy. He is a nephew of Beltran.

The MLB draft continues through Wednesday.
