Three home runs and six RBI from Steve Pearce. Mookie Betts was on base six times. Andrew Benintendi had three hits and three RBI. Ditto Ian Kinsler.

It all spelled a 15-7 blowout victory for the Red Sox over the Yankees in game one of this big four game series.

The win puts the Sox at 76-34 and a season-high 6.5 lead over the Yanks in the AL East.

This one didn't start well for the Sox. Didi Gregorius ripped a three-run homer in the first inning and when Aaron Hicks hit a homer in the 2nd innings, New York led 4-0 over Brian Johnson and the Sox.

But then came an eight run 4th inning - and it was triggered by a slide home that will be talked about for a long time. Jackie Bradley Jr. looked like a certain out at home but found and way to get a hand on the plate before the tag.

Brian Johnson pitched the first five innings and got the win.

The Yankees did hit four home runs but also struck out 13 times against Sox pitching.

The lopsided loss, combined with the loss to the lowly Orioles Wednesday left the Yankees reeling. Check out first year skipper Aaron Boone after the game talking with reporters.
