Hampden Academy

This year's Eastern Maine high school basketball tournament has featured some great play from some talented student-athletes. From all those performances, we've narrowed it down to three boys and three girls who will vie for our McDonald's High School Athlete of the Week.

The Cross Insurance Center in Bangor played host to two major upsets Saturday in the Class B quarterfinal round. Meanwhile, in Augusta, the defending Eastern Maine Class A champion Hampden Academy Broncos continued their winning ways.

The Hampden Academy Broncos headlined a State Championship Saturday that saw the final high school basketball games to ever be played at the Bangor Auditorium.  In all 4 classes, between the boys and girls, it was an even 4-4 split of Gold Balls between the eastern and western Maine.

The Hampden Academy boys closed out Wednesday night at the Augusta Civic Center with a win while the Bangor girls also advanced to the Eastern Maine Class A championship game earlier in the day.
