The Cross Insurance Center in Bangor played host to two major upsets Saturday in the Class B quarterfinal round. Meanwhile, in Augusta, the defending Eastern Maine Class A champion Hampden Academy Broncos continued their winning ways.
The Hampden Academy Broncos headlined a State Championship Saturday that saw the final high school basketball games to ever be played at the Bangor Auditorium. In all 4 classes, between the boys and girls, it was an even 4-4 split of Gold Balls between the eastern and western Maine.
The Hampden Academy boys closed out Wednesday night at the Augusta Civic Center with a win while the Bangor girls also advanced to the Eastern Maine Class A championship game earlier in the day.
The Hampden Broncos traveled to "the dog pound" in Fairfield Tuesday night to face the Lawrence Bulldogs and improved to 15-0 with a 51-35 win..
