TNF: Eagles Hold Off Panthers 28-23
Carson Wentz threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns, and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Carolina Panthers, 28-23, in Charlotte on Thursday night. Philadelphia (5-1) scored 18 second-half points on their way to the best record in the NFC after six games.
Tight end Zach Ertz caught two touchdown passes for the Eagles. They led 28-16 in the fourth quarter before Carolina (4-2) mounted a late rally aided by several questionable calls by the officials, including an unnecessary roughness penalty that allowed the Panthers to extend a drive and climb within a touchdown. Fortunately for Philly, Cam Newton short-circuited the rally with his third interception of the game.
Newton finished with 239 passing yards, a scoring toss and three interceptions. He also led Carolina with 71 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Panthers running backs were held to 1 yard rushing on 13 carries.
