Vazquez Walk-Off Blast, Sox Win 12-10 [VIDEO]
Let's call this one the 'game of the year'. Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez hits a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to give his team a 12-10 victory over the Cleveland Indians. When the dust settled, the win helped move the Sox back into first place.
But it was more than just the 9th inning.
The night began with ace Chris Sale getting rocked. The Tribe got to him for five runs in the first two innings.
The Sox answered, putting up five runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. A Mitch Moreland three-run homer was the big blow.
Then Cleveland came back with two more runs off Sale and his night was done.
The Red Sox tried to come back in the 5th inning but Austin Jackson robbed Hanley Ramirez of a home run by jumping over the rightfield wall and making a catch.
But the Sox were not done yet. They put four runs on the board in the next inning and take a 9-7 lead. The big hit - a three-run double by Eduardo Nunez.
Manager John Farrell turned the 8th and 9th innings over to new reliever Addison Reed and closer Craig Kimbrel. Both gave up home runs and when Kimbrel threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the 9th, the Indians had regained the lead.
Then the bottom of the 9th. The Sox get two guys on base and Vazquez drills a blast to centerfield off Cleveland closer Cody Allen.
Game over. Sox win 12-10.
Combine the thrilling win with a Yankee loss to Detroit and the Sox are back in first place by a half-game.
