After surrendering the game tying run in the game versus Cleveland last night, Matt Barnes is now heading to the disabled list.

The Red Sox announced the move on Tuesday afternoon in advance of the second game of the series.  The team designated the injury as a back strain and recalled Hector Velazquez from Triple-A.

Last night, Barnes failed to record an out and gave up one earned run on a hit and a walk.  The Sox would eventually lose the game in the ninth inning after a sacrifice bunt was misplayed by Brock Holt.

On the season Barnes is sporting a 3.60 ERA in 60 innings from the mound.  The Sox will send Doug Fister to the mound versus Carlos Carrasco with a 4.5 game lead in the AL East standings over the Yankees.
