Collins TD Pass Gives Maine CAA Win
Sophomore quarterback Dan Collins led a drive in the final minutes of their CAA opener giving UMaine a 27-24 win over Towson.The Bears were down by four with 2:39 to play before driving 72 yards for the game winning score as Collins threw a 37 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Dunn. The final drive had its nail biting moments as the UMaine had to convert on fourth down three times just to keep the drive going.
Collins finished the game 19-25 for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns while Dunn had a game high 6 receptions for 80 yards and the game winning score. Freshman Nigel Beckford rushed for two scores.
The defense was led by Khari Al-Mateen who racked up 12 tackles. Cabrini Goncalves had 11 and an interception while Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga added 9 and forced an improtant fumble late in the game.
The Bears improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. After three straight weeks on the road, UMaine will host Villanova next Saturday.
