The Bangor Auditorium played host to Class C Eastern Maine quarterfinal action Tuesday, with the top-seeded Houlton boys and Calais girls set to play in the afternoon session
Unbeaten Calais Girls Win by 1 Point in the Final 3 Seconds
When Calais and Naraguagus girls took the floor most expected un beaten Calais to rule the floor but this was not the case. Naraguagus took the lead early and Calais trailed for most of the game,with Naraguagus freshman Kelly Kennedy leading the charge. It all seemed to be falling to Naraguagus when in the last few seconds Olivia Smith swooped in with a 3-pointer. Calais then stole the ball and scored twice to win the game and retain their unbeaten status 55-54.
Mattanawcook Academy Girls Advance
The game between Mattanawcook Academy and Houlton Girls was close in all four quarters but Mattanawcook prevailed to win 35-28 and will advance to the next round.
Houlton Boys Prove Why They're Number 1
The Kyle Bouchard show was on display in the Houlton Shiretowner's 72-53 win over the Bucksport Golden Bucks in their Class C quarterfinal matchup. Bouchard and the rest proved just too much for Bucksport to overcome and seemed to have the game well in hand by halftime. Houlton will now take on the Calais Blue Devils in the semi-finals.
Calais Boys Earn a Familiar Spot in Class C Semis
Devin Hall poured in 24 points for the Calais Blue Devils as they knocked off the #4 seed, Sumner Tigers to advance to the Class C Boys semi-finals by a 50-35 score. The game was very close at halftime, but the Blue Devils were too strong in the 4th quarter and pulled away late.
Dexter Girls Remain Unbeaten... Barely
In a game that went down to the wire the Dexter Tigers stay unbeaten and earn a spot in the Class "C" semi-finals with a 38-36 win over the Tigers of Sumner High School. Michaela White earned McDonald's MVP honors with 13 points, including 6 in the 4th quarter. Sumner fought hard the whole game but despite 12 points from sophomore Jordan Merchant, Dexter proved to be just too much.
Orono girls need OT to Advance
It took an extra 4-minutes for the third seed Orono Red Riots to knock off an upstart team from PCHS, 45-40. Elea Kass scored 17 points to lead Orono while Jillian Woodward added 16. Orono will take on the Dexter Tigers in the semi-finals.
