Tony C Beaning, 50 Years Ago Today [VIDEO]
It was one of those moments a generation of Red Sox fans will never forget. 50-years ago tonight, a young rising star outfielder, Tony Conigliaro, was hit in the face by a Jack Hamilton pitch.
The team was in the midst of its 'Impossible Dream' year of 1967 but Tony C. was lying on the ground at Fenway Park. There was damage to his left eye, a cracked cheekbone and a dislocated jaw.
He missed all of the 1968 season and returned to play a few years but was never the same.
Tony C. was out of baseball by age 30.
After complications from a stroke, he passed away at age 45.
