It turned out to be a short night in Atlanta for Tony Stewart. His return to the NASCAR scene, after three weeks away in seclusion, saw him finish in 41st place after hitting the wall twice and damaging his #13 car.

Stewart sat out three weeks after the sprint car he was driving bumped into Kevin Ward Jr. during a dirt race in New York. Ward had gotten out of his car and came down the track to confront Stewart when the veteran driver bumped into Ward, killing him.

Stewart started the Atlanta race in 12th position and got as high as #3. He suffered car damage when Kyle Busch bumped him and both cars hit the wall.

50 laps later, Stewart blew a tire and hit the wall again, this time the damage was too much to continue the race.

Kasey Kahne ended up winning the Atlanta race.
