Opening night in America East and the UMaine women's team scored a 64-56 win at home over Stony Brook while the men's team lost a heartbreaker to the Seawolves on the road, 71-70.

UMaine Women 64  Stony Brook 56:  Blanca Millan scored 20 points and Julie Brosseau added 19 as the Black Bears get the win at the Cross Center. Tied 25-25 at the half, Maine outscored the Seawolves 22-17 in the third quarter and then outscored them by three in the fourth quarter.

The Bears are now 8-6 overall (AE 1-0). Stony Brook is 8-6 and 0-1.

Stony Brook 71  UMaine Men 70:  The Black Bears roared back from being down 20 points to take a lead with 19 seconds left only to have the Seawolves sink a three-pointer with four seconds left to win it. Aaron Calixte led the Bears with 21 points. His free throw shooting streak ended at 37 straight made.

Maine falls to 3-13 overall (AE 0-1). Stony Brook is 6-9 and 1-0.
