8-Man High School Football Gains Approval
8-man high school football is a step closer to reality. The Maine Principals' Association (MPA) football committee approved the plan Thursday at a meeting in Augusta.
The enrollment figure of 350 students would be used to determine if there is a need for one or two 8-man divisions. Schools can opt to play the traditional 11-man football.
The MPA's Mike Burnham says schools will be surveyed to see how many want to opt to the 8-man division and the football committee will meet again in January to finalize things.
Ultimately, the full MPA vote to approve 8-man football will come at the annual spring meeting of the MPA in April.
