The Red Sox have called up righhanded pitching prospect Matt Barnes and he will work out of the Boston bullpen starting tonight. He has spent all of his minor league career as a starter.

The Red Sox think his 95-96 mph fastball may create a lot of swings and misses.

Barnes has a 2.07 ERA since the International League all star break.

Barnes is 24-years-old and was a first round draft pick in 2011 out of UConn.

Meanwhile, the Pawtucket Red Sox begin their International League Championship playoff series with the Durham Bulls starting tomorrow night.
