#10 MDI Survives #7 Bucksport Winning 53-46 in Class B Prelim [STATS/PHOTOS]

The #10 MDI Trojans survived the #7 Bucksport Golden Bucks, winning 53-46 in the a Class B Prelim game on Wednesday, February 14th in Bucksport.

MDI led 12-4 at the end of the 1st Quarter. The Golden Bucks were assessed a team technical for having 6 players on the court, and James Witham sank both free throws.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Bucksport 14-7 to take a 26-11 at the end of the 1st Half.

Bucksport outscored MDI 16-15 in the 3rd Quarter, but the Trojans led 41-27 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Evan Donnell, held to just 2 points in the 1st Half, scored 10 points in the 3rd Quarter. Joey Wellman-Clouse hit 2 3-pointers, and Jameson Weir scored at the buzzer to give MDI a 14 point lead.

But in the 4th Quarter Bucksport came out firing. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Collin McDougal reduced MDI's lead to 8 points. With 4:55 left to play, MDI led by just 3 points, 43-40. But that would be as close as Bucksport came, as MDI went 6-6 from the free throw line, and Jameson Weir scored 6 points as MDI came away with the upset win.

MDI was led by Jameson Weir with 16 points. James Witham had 13 points and Cal Hodgdon finished with 11 points. MDI had 6 3-pointes, with Witham draining 3 3's. Wellman-Clouse had 2 3's and Spencer Laurendeau had a 3-pointer. The Trojans were a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.

Bucksport was led by Evan Donnell with 15 points. Collin McDougal had 13 points and Connor Fitch finished with 10 points. The Golden Bucks had 5-3points, with McDougal having 2 3's, and Caden Blackwood, Donnell and Jake Williams each hitting 1 3-pointer. Bucksport was 5-9 from the free throw line.

Bucksport finishes the season with a 8-11 record.

MDI is now 9-10. They will play #2 Maranacook on Friday, February 16th at 5:30 in a Class B Quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
