Longtime Cheverus High School athletic director Gary Hoyt is retiring, effective the end of August.

Hoyt has been AD for 37 years and has worked at Cheverus for 43 years.

He was named MIAAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2012.

The Portland school has 29 teams playing various sports.

Hoyt plans to help with the selection and transition for the new AD.

This summer has been filled with changes among high school athletic administrators.

Hampden, Hermon, John Bapst, Gray-New Gloucester and Old Town are among the schools with changes in the athletic director position.
