Lufkin Wins Varsity Maine Top Award

Brewer High Schools' record setting track and field student-athlete Austin Lufkin won the Male Athlete of the Year at the Varsity Maine Ceremony in Portland last night.

The Varsity Maine Awards are a collaboration between the Portland Press Herald, Morning Sentinel and Kennbec Journal newspapers.

The Wofford college bound Lufkin owns state records in the shot put and an all conference football player.

York High school field hockey standout Lily Posternak won Female Athlete of the Year.

The Class D state championship girls basketball team from Vinalhaven won the Varsity Maine Award for Team of the Year.

The Varsity Maine Awards program is in its second year and over 450 people attended the ceremony at USM.
