Machias’ Massaad Wins Athlete Of The Week

John Massaad of Machias High School has won the McDonald’s Basketball Tournament High School Athlete of the Week with the 38 percent of the total vote over Jarrod Chase of George Stevens Academy, Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes of Vinalhaven High School, and Graham Good of Mount Desert Island High School.

Massaad helped lead the Bulldogs to a state championship last weekend with a 51-39 victory over Greenville.  He had 19 points in the effort, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter and going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for the Bulldogs, all while dealing with illness from the week prior.  It was the first state title for the boy’s team since 1995.

Massaad took home the vote with over 4,500 submissions this past week.
