It wasn't your typical match-up between a No.1 and No. 8 seed as top-seed Stearns took on defending state champions Narraguagus Tuesday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

In a back-and-forth battle, the Minutemen held off the Lady Knights 51-41 in their Class C quarterfinal match-up in Bangor.

"We never expected this to be easy," Stearns coach Michael Brown said after th.me

Stearns, of Millinocket, was led by junior Peighton Ingersoll with 23 points. Senior captain Emma Alley had 12 points.

Stearns (18-1) will meet the Dexter Tigers in Friday afternoon's semifinals. The Tigers beat No. 4 Madawaska to advance.

Narraguagus finishes the season at 14-6.
