PawSox Are Worcester Bound

The PawSox are soon to become the WooSox. The Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox are moving from Rhode Island to Worcester, Massachusetts.

City officials and team officials made it official at a press conference Friday afternoon. A brand new stadium in be built and ready for play in 2021 and the team will become the Worcester Red Sox, the top level minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

The move ends a relationship that began back in 1970 when the PawSox team was the Double A affiliate.

The deal to build a ballpark includes money from the city and from the team ownership.

NOTE: The Portland Sea Dogs are in their 17th year as the Double A affiliate of the Red Sox. The current deal runs through 2020.
