Voters Approve Turf Replacement Project In Hampden
Voters in RSU #22 (Hampden, Winterport, Newburgh and Frankfort) have approved a bond of up to $850,000 to replace the turf and upgrade lighting at the Weatherbee Sports Complex.
The original artificial turf was put down 14 years and is breaking down. The field is used for football, soccer, field hockey and softball teams. The site is also used by the MPA to host state championship events.
The vote to approve was close, yes 514 and no 504.
The next step is for the vote count to be certified. Then the project plan goes to the board of directors and then the application for the bond to the Maine Bond Bank.
The project is expected to be completed by the middle of August.
