Another America East Conference tournament is heading to the state of Maine as the league voted to send a championship up to the northern most school in the league.

voted to move the conference's baseball tournament from LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts to Mahaney Diamond in Orono.  It will be the first time the conference will hold the baseball championship on the campus of UMaine since 2004.  The championship in baseball is set for May 23-26 in 2018. The league also will hold the quarter and semifinal rounds of the women's basketball in Portland for the second consecutive year in March of 2018.

"We are thrilled to be selected as the host site for the 2018 America East Baseball Championship,” said University of Maine Director of Athletics, Karlton Creech in a statement released by the conference. “It will be our privilege to welcome the conference's baseball programs to Mahaney Diamond for an exciting week of baseball. This is also a tremendous opportunity for the UMaine and Orono communities to gain exposure and showcase our wonderful facilities."

The league also voted to eliminate the play-in game for the men's basketball tournament starting with the 2017-18 season.  UMass-Lowell was not eligible for postseason contention since joining the conference, leaving only eight teams left with a chance to make the NCAA tournament.  With the River Hawks now qualifying, the play-in game was set to be back before the decision was made to scrap it.

The Maine men's basketball finished last season with a 3-13 record and was the final seed in the playoffs a year ago.
