Bears, Seawolves Split Twinbill
The battle for first place in the America East Conference baseball played to a Saturday afternoon doubleheader split between UMaine and Stony Brook.
The Seawolves(16-12) took the first game 4-1 and the Black Bears(9-20) came back with a 4-2 win in game two.
Now both teams are 5-3 in AE play and the rubber game of the series set for Sunday at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
GAME 1: Trailing 1-0 entering the 7th inning, Stony Brook scored two runs in the 7th and two more in the 8th to secure the victory. Brian Herrmann pitched the nine-inning complete game to get the win. He gave up just six hits and a walk to the Black Bears. Danny Casals had two of those six hits.
GAME 2: Maine scored its four runs in the first four innings of the seven-inning game. Colin Ridley drove in two runs with two hits. John Arel improved to 3-0 with six innings of work, giving up two runs, five hits and two walks. Cody Lawyerson pitched the 7th inning to get his second save.
