Bowdoin College women's basketball team begins its NCAA Tournament play with a win over Hunter College 93-73 Friday night and will meet Smith College tonight for a chance to get back to the Sweet 16 of NCAA D-III.

The 27-1 Polar Bears shot 46% from the field vs Hunter. Samantha Roy led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Five Bowdoin players scored in double figures.

Smith defeated Merchant Marine74-51 in the other regional game at the Bowdoin site.

NOTE: The St. Joseph's College women's also won its first round NCAA Tournament game, beating MIT 68-61 at the Ithaca, NY regional. The Monks will take on host Ithaca for the right to go to the Sweet 16.
