Too little, too late for the Boston Bruins. After spending most of the night with little energy, they got it cranked up in the third but lost to the Florida Panthers 4-2 and handing first place over to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Bruins get the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs. The Lightning get New Jersey.

The question remains - how can you come out with so little energy in a game like this?

The Panthers scored 1:22 into the game.

They led 2-1 after one period and then 3-1 after two periods. The Panthers were out shooting the Bruins 20-17 in a game they had nothing to play for.

Then the B's decided to play, peppering the Panthers with 26 shots.

Too little, too late.

The Bruins finish 50-20-12, 112 points. One point behind Tampa Bay.

The playoffs start Thursday night.
