The college hockey season will get underway a week from today and the UMaine Black Bears are now on the ice getting ready to host the Ice Breaker tournament.The Bears held media day on Thursday to talk about the upcoming season and the opportunity to host the Ice Breaker tourney in Portland next weekend. Maine will open against Michigan state and play North Dakota the following night. Lake Superior State will be the other team in the field.

Maine returns 7 of their top 10 scorers from last years team including Steven Swavely, Cam Brown and Blaine Byron. They also return goalies Sean Romeo and Matt Morris.

Coach Gendron brings in a freshman class of 9 players with a goal of making the team bigger and faster. Seven of the 9 freshman are 6-2 or bigger including 6-4 220 pound goalie Rob McGovern.
