New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will have back surgery on Friday, according to Vic Carucci.

According to the report, Gronk suffered a ruptured disk in his back in the game versus the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10 of the season.  Carucci reports that the timeline for the tight end in his recovery will be at least eight weeks.

Gronk has 25 receptions for 540 yard and three touchdowns in 2016, and has played in eight games this season.  He is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles for his third back surgery with Dr. Robert Watkins, the two other times occurring in 2009 and 2013.

The Pats TE was featured as the Madden video game cover athlete for this season, which is believed to include an injury curse.
