HE Commish Gets Contract Extension

Longtime Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna gets a three-year contract extension that makes him the longest serving commish in Hockey East history and the longest serving commish in all six of the of the NCAA hockey conferences.

This season is Bertagna's 20 in HE. He spent the previous 15 years at commissioner of the ECAC.

Hockey East teams have won eight national titles during his time.

The new deal keeps Bertagna as commissioner through the 2019-20 season.

The annual Hockey East media day is set for tomorrow at Boston Garden. The preseason coaches poll will be released and more details about the January Frozen Fenway event that UMaine will take part in.

The HE season begins with exhibition games on October 1st. UMaine's play its first preseason game on October 2nd.
