The top-seed Houlton girls pulled away from the No. 8 Foxcroft Academy Ponies in a Saturday night Class B quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 8 Ponies gave the Shires a scare, though, taking a 44-43 lead in the fourth quarter. Houlton was able to hang tough, and finished off Foxcroft 61-52.

Kolleen Bouchard led all scorers with 22 points. Aspen Flewelling added 13 for Houlton.

For Foxcroft, junior guard Kendra Ewer had 15 point and Grace Bickford had 12. Freshman Mackenzie Beaudry added 10 points.

Houlton is the defending state champion in Class C, but with reclassification, they are competing in Class B this year. TheShiretowners are no strangers to the class, though last winning a state B championship in 1991.
