Haunted houses (and haunted cornfields, and haunted amusements parks, and haunted...  well, you get the idea) have come a long way in just a few decades.  Back in the 80s and 90s, most haunted attractions were very basic.  At one time, you really needed to travel to a major city in order to find a professionally done haunted house.  This is definitely not the case anymore.

Almost every town and city has one, or more, really well done haunted attractions.  Sure, in many cases they are done by volunteers or done on a very small budget, but that does not mean that they are not scary as hell.

The History Of The Haunted House

Have you ever wondered just how long haunted houses have been around?  A long, long time!  In fact, the first modern haunted houses dates back to 1915.  The Orton and Spooner Ghost House, which was located in England, was steam powered!

The idea of scare-based entertainment dates back much farther, though.  Stage shows, wax museums, etc.
