As the Boston Bruins were beating the Calgary Flames 5-2 last night, South Portland's Jon Gillies had the best seat in the house at the Saddledome - the Calgary bench.

Gillies was an emergency calllup when starting goalie Brian Elliott came down with the flu and backup Chad Johnson faced the Bruins.

Gillies plays for Calgary's AHL team in Stockton, California. He took a direct flight for San Diego to Calgary for his first callup as a NHL player.

He is 14-14-1 with a 2.97 GAA in the AHL this year.

Gillies led Providence College to the NCAA national title in 2015. He was named Frozen Four MVP.

The Flames play again tomorrow night. It is uncertain if Gillies will stay with the team for that game.
