Kimbrel, Bullpen Falters [VIDEO]
When it was all said and done, the Boston Red Sox simply couldn't close out the Kansas City Royals last night and lost 7-6 in 13 innings.
A 9th inning Alex Gordon off Craig Kimbrel send the game to extra innings and a Jorge Soler three-run homer won it in 13 innings for the Royals.
After starter Chris Sale worked seven strong innings - one earned run on five hits, the bullpen could not close the deal with the Sox leading 3-2. Kimbrel gave up the homer to Gordon in the 9th to tie the game 3-3.
The Royals score a run off Heath Hembree in the 12th. Eduardo Nunez hit a homer in the bottom of the 12th to tie it.
In the 13th, Brian Johnson gave up a bomb to Soler to make it 7-4 KC.
In the bottom of the 13th, the Sox scored twice but could not get the tying run. Game over.
The Sox drop to 21-8. The Royals are now 8-21.
