The only thing more powerful than a snowstorm in Maine this winter is the UMaine women's basketball team who ran its winning streak to 11 games. The Bears took down Stony Brook 57-49 on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 3,454. Sigi Koizar led all scorers with a 21 point performance while Liz Wood continued her steady play with another double-double. Wood collected 17 points and 10 rebounds helping the Bears improve to 19-6 overall and 11-1 in America East. Courtney Anderson also scored in double figures coming off the bench with 10 points.

The game was a "Play For Kay Day" event in which the team wore pink uniforms and raised money in support of the fight against breast cancer. Because the team raised over $10,000 dollars, Head Coach Richard Baron went through with his promise to shave his head.
