Lambert, Dexter Pitch USM To 1-0 Win

Ben Lambert and Jake Dexter combined for a seven hit shutout as the University of Southern Maine baseball team blanked Salisbury 1-0 at the NCAA Division III Regional in New York.

The victory puts (29-13) USM at 2-0 in the tourney and the Huskies are three wins away from making it to the D-III College World Series.

They will meet Swathmore College at 5:15pm in a matchup of the only two unbeaten teams left in the regional.

Friday night, Lambert and Dexter were spectacular on the hill. Lambert went the first 7.2 innings, giving up seven hits, two walks and struck out seven. He did throw 140 pitches. Dexter went the final 1.1 innings and recorded his 13th save of the year.

On offense, USM had only three hits but the lone run of the game came in the 7th inning on a two out double by Zach Quintal, scoring Kyle Heath.
